Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last few weeks, you’ll be well aware that the final film in the Harry Potter series is released on Blu Ray and DVD today in the UK. The release of this last chapter of the epic adventure also signals the release of the complete DVD and Blu Ray boxsets. So now is a great time to complete your collection or experience the magic right from the beginning.

In October, Warner Brothers revealed that they would cease to produce the Harry Potter DVDs and box sets in order to encourage fans to buy them immediately. This naturally caused a lot of outrage among fans, but all is not lost. In 2012, a photo from an ad on the Deathly Hallows part 2 disc has revealed that Warner Brothers will in fact release a limited edition complete collection on DVD and Blu Ray later in 2012, probably around Christmas.

The box set looks like a great addition to the range and looks like it has some nice Hogwarts themed collectors packaging. It still remains to be seen whether continually re-releasing special editions with extra bonus content and special features will prove to be a good move by Warner Brothers. Most Potter fans will already own a box set and may feel like they are missing out if new versions are released on an ongoing basis.

The Harry Potter Signature Edition Box Set comes only in paperback format and is presented in a beautiful hard cardboard case with a fold up lid. The case has a glossy finish and is designed to mimic a package that Harry might’ve received during his 6 years at Hogwarts. Claire Melinsky, a renowned linocut artist who is based in Scotland was commissioned to design the seven unique cover illustrations which have now been established as the ‘standard’ graphics across the book range and on the Bloomsbury website.

Each book features a gold-leaf embossed Harry Potter ‘signature’ as part of the title along with it’s own unique illustration. This box set would make a great collectors item or a perfect gift for Harry Potter fans who don’t already own a box set of there own.

The UK version of the Harry Potter Audiobook Box Set is also illustrated in the signature edition graphics.

Very similar to it’s adult edition cousin, the Harry Potter Children’s Edition box set contains all 7 books in hard back format. The Books are all illustrated with the Children’s edition cover illustrations. The books are nicely presented in a hard cardboard slip case and are currently on Amazon for £65.29.

The Paperback Children’s Edition Box set isn’t currently available at Amazon, but the Adult Edition and Signature edition are both available in paperback.

The Harry Potter Adult edition box set is very similar to the paperback version. It comes with all of the seven books each of which has a cover jacket with the adult edition cover illustrations. Unlike the paperback version, the books themselves have a hard, plain black cover. Also different from the paperback version is the slide-in case used to present the books rather than the fold open box of the paperback edition.

This Harry Potter Audiobook box set is an alternative to the other complete audiobook boxset which is narrated by Stephen Fry. Narrated by Grammy Award-winning Jim Dale, this set contains all 7 books. Dale does a wonderful job of the narration with very personal voice for every single character (of which there are MANY), and maintains them throughout all 7 books.

It is worth noting that this Jim Dale version is the American version of the books so there are slight textual differences (click here to see them all!). Jim Dale also gives a much more energetic approach to the narrative in contrast with Stephen Fry’s soothing tone. Which one you prefer will definitely be a personal choice. I personally wanted the ‘true’ English version of the script so stuck to the Fry version. Of course either box set will be fantastic though, and I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Stephen Fry does a fantastic job of the narration keeping consistent voices for each character throughout every book, despite reading for the equivalent of well over 5 days none-stop! He always keeps the narrative interesting and always makes you want to come back for more. The quality of the box set and the total number of hours of enjoyment you’ll get from the set make it great value, even at £200+.

For the eyes of die-hard Harry Potter fans only! Strictly reserved for the most hardcore of Potter fans this miniature replica of Harry’s beloved Hogwarts castle will set you back an eye-watering £410. It can be imported from Germany via Amazon with free UK delivery and contains the Blu Ray discs of the first 6 films. Unfortunately, given that it is a German import you might want to swap out the Blu Rays for their English counterparts.
